Flash X-Ray Systems

Flash radiography is a very useful technique for capturing and studying high speed events.

Research fields where high speed phenomena play a crucial role are many and important:
Kinetic energy penetrators, explosively formed projectiles, shaped charges, reactive armour, hypervelocity impact and more.

With the increasing complexity and cost of today’s products, a great number of measuring methods must be used to get maximum information from each test. Finding reliable high performance instrumentation to record and investigate fundamental phenomena is key to successful testing.

Among the methods used to effectively diagnose high speed events, flash radiography is one of the most important. Flash radiography makes it possible to see what visible light cameras miss. Events that pass by in a blur or actually seem invisible are effectively stopped and unmasked.

Flash X-Ray is the tool to view the invisible. It’s widely used in ballistic research. In this field Tech-Bel represents Scandiflash AB.

Scandiflash

Scandiflash has more than 35 years of continuous experience in supplying flash x-ray systems worldwide. The company products are well known for reliability and optimum performance. Alongside, Scandiflash has many years of experience in contract manufacturing mechanical parts, instruments and equipment intended for research and biotech applications. The company offer a modern mechanical workshop and assembly line ready to supply according to your needs.

The Scandiflash flash x-ray systems were designed for use in applications requiring short and intense x-ray pulses. Typical applications that are found in ballistics, detonics and hypervelocity impact studies.

The systems are designed to give radiographs of the highest possible quality. The nanosecond exposure time will effectively prevent motion blur. A small focal spot sizes gives radiographs with high sharpness. The wide voltage range and the possibility of using soft x-rays allow optimal penetration and contrast to be achieved for most applications.

The Scandiflash systems cover voltage range from 75 kV to 1200 kV. The program also includes all the necessary peripheral equipment.

A computerized control system is used for the Scandiflash systems. The electronics units are microprocessor controlled and connected to a Laptop via an Ethernet switch. All operating parameters can be set and read from the Laptop. For short distances the control console is connected to the Laptop via an Ethernet cable. Where safety reasons, or facility layout, call for remote control, the system can be operated from a long distance via extended Ethernet or fiber optic cabling.
